Porthkerris is in a wonderful part of the world and is a great location to visit. Check out their website here. Here's a few reasons why we head down year after year.
Great set up for clubs
There's a range of accommodation opportunities and you can mix and match. A cabin for a group; double, twins, family rooms; camping. The camping has different spots at the beach, further up in the field and the electric hook ups. It makes it easy to arrange a trip for different budgets.
The Cat is lovely and perfect for heading out for the day with a group of people. The Kitten is smaller and comes in between dives. Both boats can be chartered or you can book spaces on them which is helpful if you're a smaller group wanting to book in.
There's something special about stepping out of bed, slipping on kit and stepping into the water. The shore diving at Porthkerris opens up the diving for a lot more people. Snorkellers can enjoy the water and I've taken my little one along to enjoy the beach, paddle and swim in the water.
The diving is some of the best I have ever enjoyed. The jewel anemones are just stunning. There has been a basking shark siting this month (April 2020). Sea sponges, kelp forests, corals, jellyfish, wrasse, crabs, cat sharks... so much to see and to enjoy. Porthkerris waters hold a special place in my heart!
There is a great pool to hire at the site which you can use if you need to practise anything. The shore diving offers great opportunities to build up time in the water in small steps and then you can head to the boat to further the training.
Learning to Dive
If you're travelling independently then Porthkerris Divers has their own dive school and can conduct training themselves.
We're big advocates of having your own kit but there is kit to hire at Porthkerris which can be useful. There's also a shop which is reasonably priced so you can replace many items there too.
The Local Area
The lcoal area is wonderful to explore so it's a great place to base yourself and visit St Michael's Mount, the Seal Sanctuary, or just enjoy the beauty of Cornwall. We travel from South London so we have stop offs available to break up the journey, such as the Eden Project or Stonehenge.
